Reminder -- The Presidents test is due next week.
Highlights:
Technology advantages (steel, boats, etc.) allowed Europeans to hold a position in the New World.
Eli Whitney's cotton gin made slavery profitable, then his invention of interchangeable parts allowed for much more massive slaughter in the Civil War.
While transportation technology allowed Americans to take up more space, industrialization compressed the population into smaller and smaller areas.
America's technological and industrial might made them a deciding factor in both World Wars.
The Cold War was in a lot of ways a battle of technology -- Space Race, RAND corporation.
The advent of the Internet allows America to be an even smaller country even as more and more people fill up the available space.

The internet has been a good thing and a bad thing for two reasons.a) It is good because if you have family across the world and want to talk or want to learn about something and don't want to leave your house, all you have to do is get on the web. It has made such a difference in communications and in helping students learn about different things around the world. b) It is bad because of scams, viruses, and things that people put up that you really shouldn't on something that little kids have access to. Youtube started out good, but isn't anymore. Sometimes if you type in the wrong web adress by one letter to take you what you think is your favorite game, it could be pornography (just for an example). The internet has it's pros and cons just like everything else you just have to be careful while using it to make sure you avoid the cons.
ReplyDeletelike tiffany i believe that the internet is good and bad. good because you can talk to others via e-mail, facebook, etc. bad because there are a lot of bad things on it.
ReplyDeleteWhen we do our unit on American Religious History in the spring, remind me to tell y'all about Permission Evangelism. Basically it's a way to use Facebook and E-mail to spread the gospel in a way that gives the prospect total control over how much of your message they get and when they get it. I just learned about it last week and I'm really excited about it.
